Stress
and anxiety are the contemporary evils that have been haunting people across
the globe for a couple of decades now. People read all sorts of self-help
guides, visit different therapist and adopt different kinds of exercises to
fight stress and keep it at bay. However, this menace goes on increasing with
the passage of time, and the more the world is becoming fast and rapid, the
roots of it are also spreading.
For
a Muslim, recitation of Quran, learning from its meanings and trying to
understand what it intends to convey is one of the best methods of combating
stress. In Quran, Allah Almighty gives the cure for stress, therefore, all a
Muslim needs to do is to find the cure and try to implement whatever Quran says
with regards to it.
In
Quran Allah says:
“…..And
when guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows My guidance – there will be
no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.” (2:38)
From
the ayah it is obvious that following the guidance bestowed by Allah Almighty
upon humans is the way of living a life that is free from all kinds of fear and
grief. The guidance that Allah has sent for people is Quran and it is in Quran
recitation and following its guiding principles that a Muslim can find peace of
heart. When a Muslim tries to understand and learn the holy Quran, he or she gets exposed to the reality of things
mentioned in Quran. And when a Muslim realizes and knows the reality of things
that bring stress to him or her, they eventually realize that these things are
not of that importance which is being given to them and they don’t deserve the
space in our mind or heart that is being given to them.
At
another place in Quran, Allah Almighty says:
“Allah
is the ally of those who believe. He brings them out from darknesses into the
light. And those who disbelieve – their allies are Taghut. They take them out
of the light into darknesses. Those are the companions of the Fire; they will
abide eternally therein.” (2:257)
This
ayah of Quran gives another solution to fighting stress and doing away with it
once and for all. As per this ayah, those who are true believers, their ally is
Allah. For a Muslim this notion is enough to fight stress that Allah is their
ally, because a Muslim knows that He is the Supreme and the Lord and if He is
on the side of a person, then nothing in this world can haunt a person.
Therefore, the believe that Allah is with them is the most effective cure of
stress. However, the other thing to remember is that believing in Allah brings
a person out of stress, however, if a person does not believe in Him and
continues on the path of darkness then Allah seldom cares for such a person. Therefore,
in addition to being a believer a person him or herself also has to try to move
away from the path of the darkness. When this intention and effort is there,
the result is the help of Allah arriving that definitely put all kinds of
stress and depression out of the life of a person.
In a
nutshell, going towards worldly pursuits and being negligent towards the
remembrance of Allah cause a person to go under stress and depression. When a
Muslim recites Quran regularly and ponders over its meanings, it exposes the
reality of things to him and also brings the help of Allah which is all that a
Muslim requires to combat stress for good.
